The history of Dalter is the history of freshly grated cheese and of a long process of innovation to teach the world about the Italian dairy tradition.
Our first 1kg metal tin
1978
Our story begins on 26 February 1978, when a group of entrepreneurs from Reggio Emilia decide to combine their experience in packaging and Parmigiano Reggiano to focus on the grated cheese sector, still unexplored territory at that time. After over 3 years of trials, tastings and checks, they create their first product, a metal tin containing 1 kg of freshly grated Parmigiano Reggiano. They send it out to restaurants in the area and to cheese wholesalers, who are amazed to try this product, which, at that time, is seen as a real revolution.
Our first 5 g tub
1982
The first 5 g tub of grated cheese is released in 1982, created with a piece of machinery used for making single-serving jams, completely rebuilt by the Dalter technical staff so that it can package grated cheese.
Our first circular tubs
1995
Sees the advent of the first circular tubs intended for household use.
Parmigiano Reggiano shavings
1998
Is the year for the introduction of a new cut: Parmigiano Reggiano shavings.
Set up of the Baltic Cheese subsidiary
2005
Sees the set up of the Baltic Cheese subsidiary, to handle relations with European suppliers of hard cheeses.
The Selvapiana cheese factory
2010
We buy our first cheese factory, the one in Selvapiana, thus becoming Parmigiano Reggiano producers.
Italia Formaggi Ltd. was born
2011
From the partnership between Dalter Alimentari Spa and Gennari Vittorio Spa comes the creation of Italia Formaggi Ltd., distributor of Italian products in the UK.
VIP Italia becomes a part of our group
2013
Following Spain and the UK, Germany is also a strategic market for our Made-in-Italy products: Our long-standing distributor, VIP Italia, becomes a part of our group, so we can begin directly distributing our high-quality products on the German market.
The Cigarello dairy
2016
Cigarello Dairy (in the province of Reggio Emilia) undergoes a major extension and refurbishment project, turning it into the second-largest dairy in the supply chain.
DalterFood Group is founded
2018
DalterFood Group is founded, for the purpose of bringing Dalter Alimentari’s sister companies together and forming a single, international group with integrated expertise.
The 100% acquisition of VIP Italia
2022
DalterFood purchases 100% ownership of VIP Italia, which thus becomes, for all intents and purposes, the Group’s German subsidiary.
